About the Programme:

The program was commenced with the thoughts of almighty of GOD. Dr. R. Balakrishna, Principal RRCE (Chairman of the Program) welcomed the Guest Mr. M.M. Babu Narayanan, Chief Technical Advisor, PRDC, Bengaluru with bouquet of flowers. Dr. M. Arunachalam, Prof. & HoD of EEE (Student Branch Counselor) welcomed the gathering and mentioned the importance of being a IEEE member and encouraged the students. Dr. R. Balakrishna, Principal of RRCE addressed the gathering and gave the importance of reference of IEEE journals/ publications to the students. The presence of Dr. T. R. Gopalakrishnan Nair, Rector, RRGI graced throughout the function. Prof. Sincy Elezebeth Kuruvilla, Asst. Prof. Dept. of EEE (Student Branch Chair) presented the brief bio-data of the Guest Mr. M.M. Babu Narayanan and gave an overview of the topic“Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS)” to the gathering.

The speaker, Mr. M.M. Babu Narayanan delivered an expert talk on “Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS)”. He discussed about the present and emerging challenges in large power networks and the relevance of WAMS in secure operation of power systems. The discussion covered WAMS components, applications in protection and control and comparison between SCADA where the magnitude of voltage and currents at different point in the system is made available where as in WAMS, these signals with phase positions are available to take necessary corrective actions and avoids blackouts. He has discussed about ongoing Indian URTDSM project in detail also. The session was very interactive and the knowledge shared by the speaker uplifted our students to a level forward.

The expert was felicitated with mementos by IEEE PES Bangalore Chapter and Management of Rajarajeswari College of Engg., Bengaluru. The program was concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Prof. Bharathi V , Asst. Prof. Dept .of EEE (IEEE Student Member). She thanked the dignitaries for gracing the occasion with their valuable presence. She extended her gratitude to IEEE PES Bangalore Chapter & Dr. Manohar Singh, Engg. Officer, CPRI for coordinating to arrange this program She also thanked Honorable management for their co-operation, all HoDs, Office Bearers of RRCE- Student Branch of the IEEE and all faculty and students.
