Yes, you read that right. Times when commuting from Mumbai to Pune will be a delight owing to traffic free hyperloop commute is in already in the making. Maharashtra government has already given a green signal to the US based firm for developing a on ground passenger service between Mumbai and Pune that could travel at the speed of sound, well almost.
An intent agreement was already signed in February 2019 itself to build a commuting system between Pune and Mumbai that reduces the existing travel time from 3 hours to 20 minutes. The proposed hyperloop will connect Mumbai and Pune and will pass through Navi Mumbai airport. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Prime minister Narendra Modi and the chief minister Devendra Fadnivis.
The feasibility study of the same is in progress and will require six months to complete post which the construction of the test track will start in 2019 and be completed by 2021. Post the successful testing the permanent track building would require a time of 4 years to build.
The socio economic benefits say that this route could save amount resulting to over 55 billion in terms of time, reduction in accidents, operational cost savings and emission cuts to name a few. The hyperloop concept was conceptualized apparently by the Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Tesla. He publicized it in the year 2012 as an open source and urged others to work on it and develop it. The testing of the hyperloop started in December 2017 in Nevada area of USA and the Hyperloop company known as Hyperloop one tested it to 385 km/hr which is almost one fourth of its target speed of 1223 kmph/ hour. The hyperloop pod/pods would be capable of carrying passengers
