Dr. M. Arunachalam
Arunachalam M received his B.E in Electrical Engineering and M.Sc (Engg) in Power System Engineering both from Madras University in the year 1970 and 1972 respectively and PhD from IIT Kanpur in the year 1978. He joined BHEL Electronics Division in the year 1978 and continued there till his superannuation in the year 2008. He served in BHEL Electronics Division, in different capacities and was a General Manager at the time of his superannuation. However, Dr.M.Arunachalam continued at BHEL as a Senior Specialist from 2008 till 2012. During his tenure at BHEL, Dr.M.Arunachalam worked in the area of HVDC and FACTS. His research interests are in the area of High Power Converters and Controls for HVDC and FACTS. He has contributed as a member in various National committees and International working Groups (CIGRE). He is a Senior Member IEEE and a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering.
He has been awarded Distinguished Visiting Professorship under AICTE-INAE DVP scheme. He also received BHEL EXCEL awards in the year 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2004-05. He also received an innovative project award in the year 2013 for the project “Development of Controller for TCSC”.
His publications are in national and international journals, conferences and workshops. He is co-inventor in seven patents, out of which five have been already granted.
He has guided research scholars for their PhD degrees,3 have received the degree and 2 have registered and activities are in progress.
He has visited number of foreign countries for various assignments including a training programme at ABB Power System, Sweden on HVDC Thyristor Valves.
He has got about 34 years industrial experience in Product design, Engineering and Development and about 7 years in teaching.
Since January 2013, Dr.Arunachalam is with RajaRajeswari college of Engineering as Professor and Head in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department.
